Had late night cocktails at Kamuela Provision company. Yum

Dawn is breaking over Mauna Kea

Truth. On a coaster no less

We’re really happy we did the night at the Westin Hapuna resort. The Hilton Waikoloa is the polar opposite. Very large, busy, chaotic resort with 50% kids.

I’ve generally been very lucky with showing up early and getting a room. This time at the Hilton Waikoloa, not so.

And we wait for our room.

Hapuna state park looks very king pretty epic on this Saturday

Current status. Checking out soon. Moving base of operations to the Hilton Waikoloa resort. Adding 2 grandsons to the mix. Adult night at Hapuna was fun

Some creative benches and side tables at the resort

Old dog, new tricks

Not always can I see 4 of Hawaii Island’s 5 mountains. Hualalai, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea and the Kohala’s. The wind is holding the clouds tight to the Kohala’s. Waimea looks wet. Kilauea is missing. My fave has always been the Kohala Mountains, though I’ve lived in the shadow of Hualalai for over a decade.

The thing that hit hardest in Kamala’s interview was her comment about capitulation. All of the groups that are supposed to protect us from a King, as laid out in the constitution have just laid down. Congess, top courts and the polluted justice department.

Hapuna at dawn with Hualalai

Save this one for the dead of winter.

How many drinks am I supposed to drink before I take an ambien?

There used to be a tree here. Just like the one in background. When our now 16yo grandson was a baby, we’d bring him down here to Holoholo Kai park and sit under that tree with lunch and cold beverages. Bummer that it’s gone

This is Holoholo Kai park at the far north end of Mauna Lani resort. Right next to Paniau. Used to come here in the early 90s. I was a sales rep for a liquor distributor. Would pick up a bento at Whaler’s general store in the King Shops and eat it here. Would see other reps here too.

We’re camping. Roughing it.

Can only get up and move to Bobby Holcomb.
