Wow, just found out our association dues are going DOWN 21%. It’s a mid-year adjustment. Condo insurance went down form the pre-fiscal estimates that were based on the post-Lahaina fire increase.
Pau scanning 329 photos left by my Great Auntie who was frequently in Hawaii from 1939-43. Mostly on Hawaii Island. I scanned to PDF. It will maintain better quality for the long term. The originals are likely to go to my daughter. Her other half manages at the Bishop Estate archive.

Before entering the Kama’aina discount info, parking at the Hilton Waikoloa was $48/day. WTF. It would be cheaper to park at the shopping center and catch an Uber.
The fact that I have to go out and protest just pisses me off. Government has just worked my whole life. I’ve testified (written & in-person) on issues at local council and the state level and congress. From zoning to coast access to brew pubs to healthcare. Won some, lost some, but it’s worked
Hawaii’s summer weather is finally taking hold. It happens when the low pressure systems that form off of S. American and Southern Mexico start going west across the Pacific rather than NW up the Mexico coast. This will allow stready trade winds to back fill.

I recently started focusing on maternal sides of my direct line ancestral research rather than focusing primarily on the name side. Opened up entire new geographic connections. Abruzzo and Campania Italy and N. Yorkshire and Devon UK. Largest Number of connections in N. America are in Virgina.
I upgrade my iPad, but seems it designed to really benefit a keyboard, which I don’t have and not planning on buying.
Building a newtowk the old fashioned way.
The last thought on my Dad who passed in 2017. He built his network in a very unique way. In late late 1960s, he bought a used Ford Econline van and outfitted it with a file and desk with a typewriter. He stocked the file cabinet with business forms and copies of state laws and local regulations.
He also got a futon. and would park at camp sites and sleep in the van. He would ship it to each Hawaiian island for a few weeks and would visit every business in every small town and would talk to the owners about what laws and regulations affected them. They would gladly pay annual dues for him to keep them informed. No one had ever done this for them before. he did those van tours for about 5 years. As he talked to more business and kept them in the loop, he offered more and more services to fill their need. He created custom signs for them (check return policy, No Tools loaned, etc). He even created a group health insurance program for members. This grew into trade associations. Hawaii Assn of Gasoline dealers (gas stations), Hawaii Food Industry Assn, Hawaii Liquor Dealers, Hawaii Flooring Assn, the list goes on. All from that Ford van and talking to people one on one.

I tried to negociate a truce between Kalaniopuu and Captain Cook, but Captain Cook wouldn’t accept his gross disregard for protocol in holding Kalaniopu
u hostage.
Talked to a couple tonight from Orange County Ca - Siad they were a blue dot in red Orange Co. They are both scientists. He a biologist, she a physist. We shared how appalled we are about what’s happening to science in the current enviroment. Common ground
My Dad
My Father, Richard Botti passed 8 years ago. He was an advocate and lobbyist for over 1000 Hawaii businesses for 40+ yrs. He was also a nerd. Built his own computers, amplifiers, tuners, speakers and furniture. Bought a used printing press and learned how to fix it and use it to print newsletters. He invested in good cameras to photograph. Later video equipment. He also built his own production studio and learned how to use it rather than pay big bucks for presentations at conferences. As a kid he made time to build Viet Nam era ship and plane models with me. My Dad was not a sports fan, but umpired my little league games. He instilled me with work ethic and solution finding skills. I miss his counsel when I hit a speed bump.

Reading this dissertation on “Technological features of preservation systems that support the authenticity of digital records.” It dawned on me that DOGE likely turned this on it’s head. We can no longer maintain an intellectual order of any federal records.
