Was just reading in Ke Kumu Aupuni that during Kamemeha’s reign there was a kapu on all fishing for 6 months. After which the next month was fish for all of his cheifs and their people and families. The remaining 5 mos was open season. This inspired good stocks of fish. Ecology

Hawaii is more vulnerable to climate change than most of the US. We need to share in the expense with people come and use our beaches and services.
Didn’t realize how difficult it is to change the password on a lot of pretty prominent websites and services. There’s no consistentcy.
Didn’t realize this after driving in both places until I really thought about, but Sonoma County is only 30% the land area of Hawaii County. Except for Hwy 101 in Sonoma, I think it’s easier driving on Hawaii Island. Lots of mountain roads in Sonoma.
The Navy should drop some dead bombs on Texas or North Carolina.

Have spent 3 hours on a long overdue password cleaning up. Yesterday was bookmarks. Getting my digital house in order.
Fighting the good fight
I’ve been fighting for my community my entire life—it’s how I was raised. Much of my advocacy has focused on environmental issues and protecting ocean access, especially for canoe clubs. I’ve volunteered with environmental groups, supported various conservation efforts, and served on business association boards as well as Habitat for Humanity.
Over the years, I’ve testified at City and County council hearings, land board meetings, and legislative sessions. I’ve met with council members, legislators, and government agencies to push for meaningful change. I even once testified in support of legalizing brewpubs in Hawai‘i.
I’ve won a few battles and lost many. These days, it’s getting harder to stay engaged in the fight. I don’t have a stake in as many of the issues, and it takes more energy than it used to. The forces against good at stronger than ever. But my commitment to community still runs deep.
Just out of curiosuity was looking population and size Hawaii County: 29,0790 / Hawaii State: 1.446 million / Sonoma County 481,812 Area of Hawaii 10,031 sq mi / Hawaii Island 4,028sq mi / Sonoma county 1,766sq mi / O`ahu 597Sq mi. Would have never thought Hawaii Isle is larger than Sonoma County
I don’t really enjoy keynote presentations like Apple’s or any other for that matter. Just want to read a list of what’s new after it’s over. It’s probably the hype and hyperbole.
Magics Sands beach in March and today. That’s why they call it Magic sands, gone in the winter and back in the summer

This pix are from the arrival of the Nā Ohana Holo Moana canoes from across the South Pacific that joined the Hōkule
a on her return to Hilo, Hawaii. Many may recall the canoes had to be fumigated off shore to prevent invasive pests from the more remote islands.
Here’s a group of photos (photos if analog pix) of the Hōkule`a at the beginning of the voyage to Rapa Nui (Closing the Triangle) in 1999. Note the different sails for the difficult 1000 mile upwind leg.

Here’s the Hōkule`a on her return from the Tahiti and Samoa in 2014. The crew in this voyage was mostly the 2nd generation of voyagers with few originals in the mix.

Really like this Car-Free Community. Not Arizona, but the idea. youtu.be/4UAZMEpOK…
