Four years on from my total knee replacement. I regularly walk 15k step a day pain free. It still amazes me considering the condition my knee was in.

I had a severed ACL and there was no tissue left in the joint. It hurt all the time, even sitting.

Ordered the base level iPad today. Getting a good trade in on my iPad Air 2, which helped make the decision. I’ll dive into the new iPadOS and see how far I can go doing what I need.

Coffee to go

My wife and I were talking about where we went for coffee before Starbucks, which didn’t come to Hawaii til 1996, at Kahala Mall on Oahu.

Back in the day 7-Eleven stores were the place get a cup-o-joe, it was good (enough). There was also a place called Coffee Works in Ward Warehouse that opened in 1975 for “special occasion” coffee. It was a regular weekend stop, a place to sit and read the Sunday paper.

Moved to Hawaii Island in 1991, there was Bear’s Coffee in Downtown Hilo, it was also considered special occasion coffee (it’s still there with different owners), they had great waffles too. 7-Eleven was still the every day coffee stop.

Kona has always had a number of places to get coffee in support of the Kona Coffee industry, but not many formal coffee shops, more like places in support of a specific farm.

Currently we have 4 Starbucks in Kona (1 in Target). 1 is closed due to staffing issues, 1 is closed for renovation and the other 2 always have a long lines, so the hand-full of other smaller coffee places have come back into prominence. COVID may just break the Starbucks habit.

There were 4 Blockbuster stores here on Hawaii Island. It’s funny how people still say that something is located at or next to the old Blockbuster.

COVID still a thing here. Hence, no plans to see Dune in a theater any time soon. bigislandnow.com

Trying to watch Dune. Got through the title sequence. Thanks HBO

I kind of agree with Manchin on this one. I guess one of my old conservative values is that social programs should be there to pick people up, but not carry them indefinitely. Fascinating concept. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been told since I remember that quitting is not an option.

The new Macs look amazing, I’d still like something like the discontinued 12" Macbook. My needs are more online based, no heavy lifting. I just need a portal.

Too many shows to watch and not enough time. Watching all of the Marvel shows on Netflix in sequential order. Succession is back tonight and the new season of Doom Patrol had dropped.

The problem of staffing is pretty much universal. We can’t simply say people expect more. Hospitality wages are better than they’ve ever been and people still aren’t coming out for work. With mandated slowly being lifted, customers expect things to get to the way they were, we can’t do it with half the staff. It’s aggravating

My Kindle Paperwhite just died. My new signature edition won’t be here for a month. Reading on my phone I guess.
