Lots of tech layoffs. I’ve been in Food and Beverage for most of my adult life (45+ years). For the foreseeable future people need to eat. I’ve never been laid off (fired yes, laid off never), always had a job.
Not making $millions, but always had a job.
Kona gets a lot of snow birds each winter. There are hundreds of condos with part-time owners. The vast majority are older (70+) & white with many Canadians. During this time of year the demographic skews much older, so us in our early 60s are older, but not old.
Reading a lot more. Subscribed to “The Point” and “County Highway” and the book my Daughter gave me for Christmas.
One of favorite places to go was the Kona Brew Pub. We would often got on Fridays for a porterhouse dip sandwich and grilled chicken nachos. That was until they overhauled the menu and took both things off. It’s more effort, now we make epic nachos and grilled rib eye sandwiches are home. Their loss
Great news. A lot of this is former sugar cane land.
Had another watch of True Detective season one. Last watched it during lockdown. Caught the essence of the bayou in detail.
Master class all around.
The Middle East is getting dicey. Something bad will happen by misunderstanding or accident and it will blow up. Russia and/or China will nudge it along to mess even more with our elections.
All of this about Apple being a corporation and all. I don’t adore Apple, I use their products because they work, they last and they all talk to each other. If they stop doing that, I’ll move on. I also wear Patagonia clothing for the quality. Last forever. Sketchers work shoes, same.
Siri on my watch stopped working. Wondering if the Siri team in San Diego broke something out of protest for having to move to Austin. Two places diametrically opposite politically.
This is the year I finally close my Evernote and Instapaper account. These app are a shadow of what they were. Moving everything the Apple Notes. Created a read later folder and my EN export folder.
I work in a kitchen and use a pen to write food labels (when item was made and shelf life, etc), check lists, temperature logs, requisitions, etc. I use Fisher space pen cartridges. They write in any orientation and on damp surfaces, which we have a lot of.
The COVID Pandemic was a societal demarcation line. Businesses operate differently, “short staffed” is a normalized excuse. Service quality is down and it’s accepted. Prices are all over the place and not good. People are fine just staying home and getting everything delivered.
Made a new batch of my spice mix. I use it for fish and vegetables at the hotel. It has pink, white and black pepper. Kosher and Hawaiian Alae salt, black salt and a little habanero. Then I lightly smoke the entire batch.

Back in 2010 I have small media company. Built websites set up social media for small local businesses. I made a living for a few years. Built over 50 sites, and built in social media hooks. Set everyone us with a blog in some way shape or form as home base.
