I lived in Keaukaha during one evacuation in the 90s. I remember loading 2 TVs and suitcases and going to family’s house up mauka.
Recalling a 1986 tsunami evacuation. I was a manager at TGI Friday on Ward Ave. we were the just out of Evac zone. Honolulu was gridlock. We got crushed. Ran out of everything. The bar was packed until closing.
Love this quote
The three lenses of opportunity cost: (1) Compared with what? (2) And then what? (3) At the expense of what?
Now we wait for the buoys to report mid path reports on how bad it will be. The 2011 tsunami in Japan did massive damage in West Hawaii. The Four Seasons, King Kamehameha beach hotel & the Kona Coast. There was a condo in Kealakekua bay. Most of the damage was 2nd and 3rd wave, not the initial.
The 2 tsunami that devastated Hilo and Laupahoehoe in ‘41 & ‘60 were other close to 8 and came from the Aleutian island straight north of Hawaii. This is more NW, parts of Kauai, O’ahu and Maui are in danger. Hawaii maybe by wrap around.
Can’t help to remember that Iniki was supposed to stay south, it took an abrupt right turn and went between Kauai and O’ahu. That was a rough one

I have fought for years to get people to call this island Hawaii Island. When we founded an OC1 canoe paddling association in 1996, we called it Hawaii Island Paddlesport assn. When I talk to guests I only say Hawaii Island.
I’ve always been a very positive and upbeat person. Having been a manager and “leader of Men (and mostly women)” for so many years, I always strived to be the positive force. So go the leader goes the team. Lately though I’ve picked up a fair amount of cynicism. Lots of stuff.
My wife was saying in N Dakota a patio home is no basement single level. In Hawaii, that’s just a home
Read this book when it came out almost 40 years ago. Gave my copy away. I wanted to read it again , it was difficult to find, but I’ll take it with me for a weekend staycation.

Won first place tag and release in the 2006 Hawaiian International Billfish tourney on a fluke. We were given a team as sponsoring radio station (KWXX) and were a throw together team. We beat all of the pros. Just deferred to the boat captains. They put us over hungry fish.
One concern in the back of my mind. When prices go up, they grudgingly go back down. The exception is gas and produce. The add on prices for tariffs may be stuck even if tariffs end. Wonder if the foreign and domestic federal programs Rtump cancelled will ever fully come back. Dems lack ruthlessness
The elected Democrats have no scrap. They’re being too nice. Hawaiian style: kicks of slippahs, squares up, bouncing on the balls of your feet “wot u said brah?…. We go! IYKYK
