Fighting the good fight
I’ve been fighting for my community my entire life—it’s how I was raised. Much of my advocacy has focused on environmental issues and protecting ocean access, especially for canoe clubs. I’ve volunteered with environmental groups, supported various conservation efforts, and served on business association boards as well as Habitat for Humanity.
Over the years, I’ve testified at City and County council hearings, land board meetings, and legislative sessions. I’ve met with council members, legislators, and government agencies to push for meaningful change. I even once testified in support of legalizing brewpubs in Hawai‘i.
I’ve won a few battles and lost many. These days, it’s getting harder to stay engaged in the fight. I don’t have a stake in as many of the issues, and it takes more energy than it used to. The forces against good at stronger than ever. But my commitment to community still runs deep.
