One of my ancestors, Lt. John Gibbs, was a member of the first democratically-elected legislative body in the British American colonies. The Virginia House of Burgess General Assembly at Jamestown in July 1619. This was the first legislative body in British North America and became a representation of the struggle between the crown and the colonists’ desire for self-governance.
The GOP seem to be losing the concept of self-governance.
