One dynamic of canceling cable is for 40+ years the behavior has been to turn on the TV, power up the cable box, then scroll the cable guide for something to watch. Sometimes watch a specific show intently, most times scroll till something remotely interesting pops up, then watch it or just have it on while I do something else. Not having cable requires a more intentioned action. Have to choose a streaming app, then do a more focused scroll. If something has been saved in a watch list, which app? The Apple TV app tries to be a hub, but not everything is there. It’ll take a few weeks to sort out.
@maique we were thinking about it for a while. It came down to $$$. Spectrum kept adding fees. $16 more started last month.
well done! I’d love to cut cable but my wife still has shows she likes to watch. I’ve tried to talk her away from the dark side of the force a few times but haven’t got through yet. 😂
I have no idea about the prices over there, truth be told. $16 would be a hefty increase for our plan, we pay around $57 for cable (fast internet, a ton of channels, and landline(!))
@peterimoore My wife was the hold up here until that last price increase. Our local stations all have Apple TV apps for local news and features. We’ve come across a few niggles, but we’re working through it. Mostly things aren’t on at a specific time that we’re used to, it just streams when it does.
sadly our streaming options in Canada are pathetic due to the usual “licensing issues” which is a political excuse for the real reason; the broadcasting regulatory body caters to the cable corporations, not the consumers. I should take another look at Apple TV for regional channels, but I’m not holding my breath.
Most of my TV time is spent watching streams, with the exceptions of Jeopardy, re-runs of Frasier, and local news. I'd drop those in a heartbeat if my wife said she was done with cable.
